Foster's Steampunk Pack (v2.8) by Foster
18 December 2016, 9:52 PM

WARNING: There is some strange error regarding the inventory sprites. They will appear to have strange white splotchy backgrounds around them. This is not something I know how to solve as of yet, and it is not my own fault as I ensure that the backgrounds remain transparent, and every other sprite seems to work perfectly fine with no similar issues. If it's too distracting I don't blame you if you decide to not use this pack. However, just remember, you have been warned.

Here we have the Gas-Powered Gangster package. I just felt like offering an alternative to the military issue styled Tommy Gun from the original pack, so if you wanted a classic mobster styled Tommy Gun instead you can just download this pack on top of the initial one.
Note: If you decided to download this, and you want all of the other weapons as well, make absolutely sure you download this AFTER downloading the initial pack. This will overwrite the Tommy Gun, and vice versa.

Every weapon (improvised not withstanding,) every shell casing, every projectile, every crate, both barrels and a whole lot more have been given a steampunk redesign.
A lot of these are remastered versions of my old steampunk pack that I made around 5 years ago now.
Compare here:

Many weapons have been revised from their initial re-redesigns, mostly in an attempt to lower some of their sizes due to the only complaint given by people to be that they are too large in game and for others to get rid of some clipping with the hand caused by oversized grips and the like.

The Bazooka is probably the only weapon I haven't truly downsized completely, however this isn't really laziness as much as it is the fact that even the base game's bazooka clips with the character, so there's no point in doing so and you'd lose out on having a shoulder mounted naval cannon, so I think there's only upsides to sticking with the bazooka's current size.

A lot of clipping with the characters' legs is just because of a long-time issue regarding the layers of the characters' body sprite portions (legs have always been above hipfire/walking/sprinting arms and weapons, but aimed weapons are above legs as they should be.)

There's not much that can be done about this, unfortunately, even with several resizing re-redesigns.

v2.8: Redesigned Medkit. Redesigned Pistol and Silenced Pistol to account for new textures and new pistol. Rotated Pills sprite. (Might change this one back.) Added .45 Pistol (Actually the pre-existing pistol texture from my pack, it was a 1911 after all.) Added Strength Boost pick-up.

v2.5: Redesigned the Assault Rifle, Carbine, Tommy Gun and Machete (again) to minimize clipping and (hopefully) perform one last downsizing pass while maintaining artistic cohesion and detail. Redesigned the Grenade Launcher, Flare Gun, Revolver and Magnum to maintain artistic cohesion, add detail and give the Magnum and Revolver further distinction. Redesigned the MP50 to add more detail and just look a bit better. Redesigned the barrels, as they were much overdue for a very needed change in order to maintain artistic cohesion. Redesigned the Supply Crate Parachute to add detail, make it look far nicer and maintain artistic cohesion. Redesigned the majority of Supply Crates to make them look a bit nicer, make it easier to tell what the Primary Crate represented, and to fix a longstanding issue where the Lazer Crate had white where it should have red due to a color bug in the game. Redesigned the SloMo watches to make it far easier to tell at glance which one is which (sorry about that one.) Redesigned the Pills and Medkit to cut down on their sizes (Medkit could use feedback, liable to change later.) Redesigned UI elements to have far higher visibility, look slightly better, and of course to maintain artistic cohesion to some extent. Fixed a clipping issue on the foregrip of the M60 (not technically a redesign, but the design changed slightly to allow this fix.) Changed the coloration of the Pump and Dark Shotgun pumps to maintain artistic cohesion. Changed the color of the ejection ports on the Uzi and Silenced Uzi to maximize visual distinction (thus bringing out a bit more detail.)  Changed the magwells on both the Machine Pistol and MP50 to make them seem a bit less flat. Finally added the Gas Can and Propane Tank and Weapon Debris pieces. Probably also did some other stuff I forgot about but should be in the pack.

v2.0: Redesigned the Fire Axe, Pipe Wrench, Baton and Machete to increase artistic cohesion and downscale their rather ludicrous sizes. Cut down the stock and barrel length of the Sniper Rifle to bring it in-line with the Carbine and Assault Rifle. Fixed clipping issues on both variants of the Uzi that persisted even after the redesigns. Fixed a minor consistency error on the Rifle Magazine sprite. Added the Shock Baton, Lead Pipe and Chainsaw melee weapons from the Steam release.

v1.8: Redesigned the majority of firearms (so, no melee yet,) again in yet another attempt to downsize them and fix clipping issues where possible. Redesigned C4 to look more like dynamite like the original idea was, as I decided I didn't like how it turned out. Redesigned the Mines to look more detailed and less flat. Redesigned Rifle Magazines to go along with their new designs. Redesigned Small Magazines to work nicely with existing designs, the new Uzi design and the newly added Steam weapons. Redesigned the grenade launcher and bazooka projectiles to match up better with the rest of the art style of the pack and not look as bad, hopefully. Added the MP50, Machine Pistol and Dark Shotgun from the Steam release of the game. Melee update planned later for on.

v1.4.5: Redesigned Pistol, Silenced Pistol, Uzi and Silenced Uzi in an attempt to downsize them, make them fit in with the rest of the weapons better, and look more like Colt 1911s as they were intended to.
v1.4.3: Completely redesigned the Magnum and Revolver in an attempt to downsize them and make them fit in with the rest of the weapons a bit better.
v1.4.1: Added "Gas-Powered Gangster" alternative Tommy Gun pack.
v1.4: Completely redesigned the Tommy Gun, Assault Rifle, Carbine, Sniper Rifle, Flare Gun, Grenade Launcher, Sawed-Off and Pipe Wrench to look better and seem less oversized. Made a very minor redesign to the Magnum to polish the reload frame and fix some clipping on the hand. Fixed many clipping issues with many weapons in regards to the hands and arms. Added C4 and Shuriken throwing weapons to the roster, finishing them off entirely for now.
v1.3.2: Improved quality of Tommy Gun's magazine, Tommy Gun's magazine match up more with the gun's sprite, lowered sights on Tommy Gun.
v1.3: Added every melee weapon (not makeshift ones,) added every crate, improved crosshair visibility.
v1.2.2: Fixed minor visual issues with medical items and slow motion items.
v1.2: Added molotov, added mine, added grenade, added bottle, added briefcase, added profile background, added menu elements, added supply crates, added laser + box, added medical items and added slow motion items.
v1.1: Fixed every guns' hand positions, fixed every gun's hand clipping problems, changed some weapons' designs in order to help alleviate problems with hand clipping.
v1.0: Release

I think this update here is likely the final one until they add more weapons.
I have gone through and redesigned everything for around the 5 millionth time for multitudes of reasons, and I think I've gotten everything to just about the perfect point of size and detail.
I've even gone ahead and redesigned the UI elements I changed, added the propane tank and gas can, redesigned the barrels to look far superior to their original craptastic versions (which, in defiance of all that is good in this world, managed to remain the only versions for 2 years,) etc. etc.

There is indeed more stuff I could change, but I think keeping what I have now is probably more than enough for how much effort has gone into this big old bundle.

If/When they add more weapons, I'll be sure to update the pack again, and probably redesign those weapons several times over before I get them to just the right point as per the others.
However, as it stands, I think this'll be a solid finishing line.
I'm not quitting on this, obviously, but it's done for now. I'm not sure why I put so much time, effort and passion into this project to be honest, but I hope you all enjoy it, and I hope that I FINALLY managed to get these things to a point where size and clipping is no longer an issue.

It is very cool and beautiful, but I do not like stylized texture packs.

Hope that you folks enjoy the update. I also hope you guys are enjoying the full released version on Steam as well. I got it almost purely to update the pack, and maybe make some more stuff in the future, since I'm pretty terrible at the game itself.
I tried my best to fix up clipping issues with the hands on a lot of guns but some of them seem so finicky it's basically impossible to fix them all without screwing something else up entirely.
In any case, I did my best and I hope that it's satisfactory enough.

There's no doubt in my mind this takes a lot of effort on your part and that lots of passion goes into making these. Thanks for still releasing updates for your work and improving it instead of abandoning it for the next project. I appreciate it.

Happy new year!

I'd like to thank you in turn. Moderation on multiple sites and other fronts ain't easy by any means, "like trying to herd cats" and all that.

I like coming back and seeing how I can further improve upon my existing designs, but I also wanted to make sure that it was actually fun to use by fixing the biggest and most universal complaint as much as I can, regarding the size.
I just hope nobody was sat there waiting for a new update and left hanging for over a year just because I couldn't think of any new designs to continue addressing that issue.

I hope you have a happy New Year as well.

Hey, it's me. I doubt many people are going to read this until after it's out so this might not be particularly useful, but I just thought I'd post here that I'm going to be updating this here in a while.
I'm going to redesign a huge number of the weapons to try and further scale them down to more reasonable levels and fix any issues with hand positioning, while also improving their quality.
When I did the initial rescaling, I made a false assumption that I couldn't downscale them any further without a massive drop in quality, but I've realized that I just couldn't think of any way to downscale them without a drop in quality.
So, hopefully, now that I'm deliberating on this further, I can get the weapons to a point of reasonable scale and their best quality yet.
I even have a preview here with the Assault Rifle and Carbine, respectively:

textures look great, having some trouble with the download, though. The pack does not download as a file, but as a single document. Any advice?

I don't believe I've ever heard of this problem before. It was uploaded as a .rar file that you have to open with WinRar, but perhaps you have a program on your computer that set itself to automatically open .rar files as a document or something along those lines? It's the only thing I could think of that would create an issue like that. I am also assuming you already have WinRar as most people do.

I really wish there was some sort of tutorial for downloading and installing textures into the game files, but seeing how SFD isn't the most popular game, I don't see one happening in the near future. The only one I've seen was incredibly vague and of poor quality, and since I'm not the most tech savvy person I really don't know what to do :P

All you have to do is locate your Superfighters Deluxe directory and then drag the "Content" folder from the .rar file to that folder and let it overwrite the files.
Your directory should be something along the lines of C:\Program Files (x86)\Superfighters Deluxe

Well, everyone, I hope the weapons are at a more enjoyable size for you all. I'm not sure if I could even make them smaller at this point without having to give up quite a lot of the style and good looks, so I'll keep my fingers crossed that this is a good compromise.
As a sidenote, the Flamethrower, M60, Bazooka and Magnum are all huge on purpose. They do tremendous amounts of damage and/or have other unique qualities to them that make them specialty weapons, and as such I thought it made sense to go all out with them and obviously more size means better detail. If enough people still want them to be smaller however I will probably make an alternative pack or something where you can choose whether or not you want large weapons or smaller ones.

No, the textures still remain as vanilla. I'm starting to think the directory's at fault. I'll keep trying, though, because the pack looks great.

I have discord and I'm also on the forums, either of those would suffice for communication.

If no, all I'm doing is pasting the Content file into the directory, I've done this for other textures and it has worked fine.

Are you making sure you're replacing the files in the directory?
I checked both the file for the pack I have on my folder and the download and both of them have the textures in the proper places to replace the existing textures.

Also, are you updating the game when you go to launch it? As I recall that will replace all of the textures with the vanilla ones, and there is no actual update for it to be needed.

I was right, I had two SFD directories all along, found the correct one and the textures worked fine, some of the weapons are a little big, though. Other than that its a great-looking pack.

Hi, I need help installing the pack. I've pasted all the .xnb's into C:/Superfighters Deluxe/Images in their individual folders but to no avail. If it helps the original textures just stay.

All you need to do is drop the content folder inside of your main SuperFighters Deluxe directory, which would have the .exe and .dll files alongside a single folder that's named Content.

Shortened Edit: Steampunk weapons don't shoot green bullets, but my ideas for this arsenal were a bit different than most steampunk designs. I just thought the colored steam would be more interesting.

When I first saw the textures in here, I was like "damn son they look cool" but in SFD, the guns are huge as a pumpkin and some of the melee weapons are huge too. [I'm not saying it's bad, they're still good]

I've redesigned the weapons I figured were the worst offenders as an attempt to make them less oversized. I hope they suit your tastes as well as all others' and make sure to tell me if you think they're still too big as I'll likely make an update or something along those lines if people still say they're too large.

It's been a while but I've resized/redesigned a lot of the weapons in an attempt to make them smaller. Hopefully you enjoy them more, if not I'll keep it in mind for another update or perhaps an alternative pack.

Woah. That's pretty fuckin' cool actually lmao

Especially the melee weapons. I liked the ranged weaponry too, how it all fits the theme nicely. You also managed to create a good looking Kriss Vector! Highly impressive.
